Hi. I’m Amanda. Mother of two exceptional sons. Wife of a hardworking husband. Lover of stories, words, coffee, road trips, trying new things, and connecting with people. Extrovert with social anxiety.
I love immersing myself in someone else’s story, exploring new topics, and learning about people and perspectives that differ from my own. I’m a sucker for a good book, blog, or podcast. I’ve always wanted to write, but never felt confident enough to be vulnerable and put myself out there. This blog is me stepping out of my comfort zone to do just that.
I am writing this for a variety of reasons, the first of which is to record the journey of having a baby with special needs and all that that entails. This diagnosis is very rare, so I want to add to the available information for families joining our ranks and build community with others who are facing similar challenges.
Secondly, I hope that this will become a narrative that I can reflect on someday and share with my children when they’re older. I would love to have some insight into what my mom’s life was like when she was raising us now that I’m an adult and could appreciate such a gift. This will also serve as a better way to keep our family and friends in the loop than the odd group text.
Lastly, I find talking through the hard things in life therapeutic. How much more so will it be to write about those things? So much of our journey so far has been shaped by things I’ve learned from other parents and caregivers. If sharing my feelings, discoveries, struggles, and triumphs can help another mom or dad feel less alone in this space, I will call that a win.
With all that said, if anything here resonates with you, please reach out. I would love to connect with you! Thank you for being here.
PS. If you know me, you know that grammar and spelling are my thing. Please tell me if you find any errors!
We've been through a lot in a short time. I'll be telling that story and posting updated information as I get it. Check back any time! You can also email me with any questions or if you'd like to connect!
